Man Struck Crossing Route 18 Dies From Injuries

The man struck crossing Route 18 last week has been identified as Fen Chen, 81, of East Brunswick.

The East Brunswick Police Department has confirmed that an elderly man struck by a car while crossing Route 18 last week has died from his injuries.

Fen Chen, 81, of East Brunswick, was struck by a car at approximately 8:54 a.m. March 26 while crossing his bicycle across Route 18 at Icker Avenue.

Chen died as a result of his injuries, according to a Nixle message from the East Brunswick Police Department. He was identified after his son contacted the police department to report him missing, according to the message.

The driver of the vehicle told police that he was traveling southbound on Route 18 in the left lane when he saw Chen crossing, and was unable to stop in time. 

Police are still investigating. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Patrolman David Velez or Patrolman Sean Garrison of the East Brunswick Police Department’s Special Operations Division at (732) 390-6969.
