A Night Out for the Kids at Crystal Springs

The Teen Splash Bash is open to students entering sixth- through eighth-grade.

Look out, the traditional young person complaint of “there’s nothing to do” may become a thing of the past, especially if you like swimming, dancing, music and friends.

The Teen Splash Bash will be held Friday, July 8 and again Friday, July 22, at the aquatic center and on hand will be games, prizes, a DJ, swimming and a whole lot of fun. Open to students going entering sixth through eighth grade, the Teen Splash Bash begins at 6 p.m., with students being allowed to stay past the 8 p.m. closing until 10 p.m. Basketball, volleyball swimming, races, dancing, and music will highlight the activities.

“They’re at the age, especially the kids going into sixth grade, where their parents think they’re young, and they are, but for some, it’s they’re first night out,” said Karen Kecskes, Recreation Supervisor/Community Services

Children who attend will be required to show proof of their grade by presenting a school ID or a report card. And while the kids finally have something to do, parents will have to fend for themselves. Once 8 p.m. rolls around, everyone but staff and the students will be asked to leave. Parents will not be allowed to enter and students will not be allowed to leave unless they are being picked up.

“The gates will be locked,” said Kecskes. “You’re not getting in and kids are not getting out until you’re here.”
