Library Gets $1,000 Grant

The Library's Business Resource center was selected from libraries throughout the state to receive the Best Practices and Marketing Award from the NJ State Library.

After less than a year since it opened, the is garnering statewide recognition for excellence. The library’s Business Resource center was selected from libraries throughout the state to receive the Best Practices and Marketing Award from the NJ State Library.

The award is given to New Jersey libraries that have demonstrated outstanding results in marketing and programs for job seekers and small business owners. On Tuesday, Library Director MaryEllen Firestone received a $1,000 check from the NJ State Library as part of the honor. The money will go to help continue the center’s efforts.

“We’re very, proud of the work MaryEllen and the staff have done, and the board is very supportive,” said Elaine Lee Kessler, a member of the Library Board of trustees.  Gary Cooper, of the NJ State Library, said East Brunswick’s Business Resource Center is a model and pilot project for other libraries to use.

Since it opened in January, the BRC has worked with job seekers by providing them with computer training courses, resume services and with access to state resources. It also has worked with the East Brunswick business association and small businesses throughout the township. The Business Resource Center provides notary services, color copying, faxing, marketing opportunities, resume reviews, networking events, proctoring and much more.
