Accident Snarls traffic

Traffic going in both directions was slowed this morning after an accident in front of the Brunswick Square Mall on Route 18.

Traffic in both directions on Route 18 was stopped or slowed following an accident at 7:34 a.m. near the Brunswick Square Mall.

According to police,  Frances Kwiatkowski, of Morganville, was driving north on Route 18 and slowing down in traffic when his 2008 Dodge was hit in the rear by a 2007 Dodge Caravan being driven by Harry Bermes near the intersection of Cindy Way, police said.

The collision caused Kwiatkowski's vehicle to move foward, ramp the center dividder and rollover into southbound lanes of traffic, police said. Kwiatkowski was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and Bermes was issued a summons for careless driving, according to polcie.

The accident casued two lanes of southbound traffic and one lane on the northbound side to be closed for about an hour during the investigation.

The East Brunswick District No. 1 Old Bridge Volunteer Fire Company and the East Brunswick Rescue Squad responded to the accident.
