Authorities Investigating Fatal Route 1 Crash

Middlesex County Prosecutor investigating a motor vehicle crash on Route 1 in which a 41-year-old North Brunswick woman was killed.

Authorities are actively investigating a motor vehicle crash on Route 1 Tuesday in which a 41-year-old North Brunswick woman was killed.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Kenneth McCormick, director of the North Brunswick Police Department, announced today that police are actively investigating a motor vehicle crash in which a 41-year-old township woman was killed.

Claudia Lopez, of North Brunswick, was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash that occured at 9:02 p.m. at the intersection of Route 1 south and North Oaks Boulevard in North Brunswick.

An investigation by North Brunswick Police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Lopez was driving crossing the intersection of North Oaks Boulevard when her 2000 Nissan Sentra was struck broadside by a sport utility vehicle driven by George Rizzo, 30, also of North Brunswick.

Rizzo’s vehicle was traveling without its front and rear right tires before it struck Lopez’s car, according to police.

No criminal charges have been filed against Rizzo as of yet, but the investigation is ongoing.
