Authorities are actively investigating a motor vehicle crash on Route 1 Tuesday in which a 41-year-old North Brunswick woman was killed.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Kenneth McCormick, director of the North Brunswick Police Department, announced today that police are actively investigating a motor vehicle crash in which a 41-year-old township woman was killed.

Claudia Lopez, of North Brunswick, was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash that occured at 9:02 p.m. at the intersection of Route 1 south and North Oaks Boulevard in North Brunswick.

An investigation by North Brunswick Police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Lopez was driving crossing the intersection of North Oaks Boulevard when her 2000 Nissan Sentra was struck broadside by a sport utility vehicle driven by George Rizzo, 30, also of North Brunswick.

Rizzo’s vehicle was traveling without its front and rear right tires before it struck Lopez’s car, according to police.

No criminal charges have been filed against Rizzo as of yet, but the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Officer Jason Zier of the North Brunswick Police Department at 732-247-0922, ext. 316, or Investigator Gregory Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745- 3927.

What do they mean he was driving without its front and rear tires?

how can someone not know they have two tires missing . I would check to see if he is on some kind of drugs . A Dodge darango is a taller than average car . So he would be leaning to the right and not beable to steer the Suv. Maybe someone losened up the tires . Have to check the wheel studs for damge and someone should look for two tires on the side of the road in a 1 mile radis to see the casted aluminum rims for elongation to the bolt holes .

This is so sad, went shopping at the Walmart in North Brunswick the day after it happened and all the employees had a picture of the woman pinned on their shirts. She was the manager of the infants dept. and she had 5 children. May she RIP and pray her children will be cared for.

So terrible. It's one of those things you just don't want to think about.
