Man Seriously Hurt in Route 18 Collision

Accident shut down Route 18 south and created traffic problems in the area.

A 61-year-old Manalapan man was rushed to the hospital Monday, Nov. 14, following an accident on Route 18.

Police said the victim, Joseph Yankilevich, was driving a 2009 Scion XB southbound on Route 18 when he hit a 1996 Nissan Altma driven by Diana Sachakova, 17, of Old Bridge, just south of Rues Land at 4:59 p.m. Sachakova was entering the highway from the Exxon gas station.

Yankilevich’s vehicle rolled over and the driver had to be extricated by Old Bridge Volunteer Fire Department District No. 1.

Yankilevich was taken by TransMed Ambulance Service and RWJ Paramedics to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with serious injuries. Police said he was treated and released. Sachakova and a passenger declined medical treatment at scene.
