Pedestrian Hit By Car

Man taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital following accident.

A 31-year-old South River man was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital after he was hit by a car at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Kendall Drive and Old Bridge Turnpike.

Police said the man was walking at the intersection when he was hit by a 2006 Infinity being driven by Smitha Bhat, 31, of East Brunswick. Bhat was driving north on Old Bridge Turnpike and tried to make a left onto Kendall Road when he hit the man.

The victim complained of pain in his neck and was taken to Robert Wood by the East Brunswick Rescue Squad for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Bhat was charged with careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident.
