Democrats Maintain Seats in 18th

Incumbents for State Senate, Assembly and Freeholder were re-elected Tuesday.

Democrats managed to hold onto State Senate, Assembly and Freeholder seats in Tuesday’s election.

According to the Middlesex County Clerk’s Office, incumbent Democrat State Sen. Barbara Buono defeated Republican Gloria S. Dittman 18,423 to 12,354.

For seats on the Assembly, incumbent Democrats Patrick J. Diegnan Jr. and Peter J. Barnes III defeated Democratic challengers Joseph Sinagra and Marcia Silva. Barnes was the top vote-getter with 17,061 and Diegnan received 16,945. On the Republican side, Silva received 12,648 votes and Sinagra received 12,233.

In the race for Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholder, Democrat incumbents Carol Barrett and Charles Tomaro defeated Republicans John O’Sullivan and Avi Duvdevani. Barrett received 58,795 votes and Tomaro received 58,826. O’Sullivan received 42,647 votes and Duvdevani received 39,237. Freeholder terms run three years, according to www.mycentraljersey.com.
