Kindergarten Registration Set For This Week

Hey parents, it’s time to register your children for kindergarten.

The East Brunswick School District has set aside the first week of March for kindergarten registration. Children who will be 5 years old by Oct. 3, should be registered for the upcoming school year, which begins in September.

Daytime registration will be held in all elementary schools on March 1, March 2 and March 3 from 2:15 to 4 p.m. and will take place on different days according to a student’s last name, and in different locations, according who which school your child will attend. There also will be evening registration from 4 to 7 p.m. on those same days.

For daytime registration, students with last names beginning with A through I should go to their schools Tuesday, March 1; students with last names beginning with J through Q should go on Wednesday, March 2; and students with names that begin with the letter R through Z should go on Thursday March 3. A registration make-up day will be held for all students on Wednesday, May 4, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Evening registration will be held at Central and Chittick schools on Tuesday, March 1; at Lawrence Brook and Memorial schools on Wednesday, March 2; and at Bowne-Munro, Frost, Irwin and Warnsdorfer schools on Thursday, March 3.

Items parents or guardians should bring with them for registration include proof of residency, a health appraisal form, registration data sheet, health screenings, student health history, a sibling form, kindergarten session request and preschool experience survey. Students currently enrolled in the district's preschool program will automatically be registered for kindergarten. The student's permanent folder, which contains the student's birth certificate and immunization records, will be sent to the student's home school for the kindergarten year.

In addition, registration for first grade for the 2011-2012 school year is scheduled for Wednesday, March 23, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and 1:30 to p.m. Parents of entering first-graders that will be new to one of the district's eight elementary schools should register their children on that day.

According to the district, the Kindergarten Extended Care program, offered through the district’s Community Programs Department makes it possible for kindergarten children to be under the district’s care for a full day. Two options are available for this for-fee program. Both options include the Early Morning Program and a second option includes enrollment in the After School Kids program, providing a  safe place  for students from 7 a.m. until as late as 6 p.m.
