Helios Gets Off to a Hot Start

The Helios Volleyball Club sent three teams to the club's first tournament.

The Helios Volleyball Club sent three teams to Flemington for the Club's very first competitions on Jan. 6.

Despite having only had seven practices together this season, and coming off a long holiday break, the teams were ready and eager to test their abilities.

Helios 13 Malibu had the honor of playing the first match in club history, facing the host club's 13 team to start the day.

Malibu swept both sets to win the match, starting the club in the right direction for hopefully a long time.  The girls went on to sweep all sets, winning their other two matches, thus winning their pool with an unblemished record.

Helios 12 Laguna was in the same pool, and would have to face two older 13s teams, but they started out strong against the Readington 12s, sweeping both sets in their opening match.

They then faced their club-mates, Helios 13 Malibu, and although Laguna lost both sets, they kept the score within 6 points in each.

In the final match of the day, they faced the host club's 13 team, and with the confidence from their prior matches, Laguna swept both sets to win the match, including a dominating 21-12 victory in the second.

Helios 15 St. Tropez struggled to find their rhythm in their opening match, losing both sets to the hosts. They bounced back in both their next matches, however, playing much more aggressively.

They were disappointed to split sets in the final two matches, feeling they could have won both, but were happy with the way they played and look forward to their next tournament in three weeks.

Congratulations to all the girls and their coaches on an excellent start to the competitive season.
